Universal Design (UD) is the design and composition of an environment (or any building, product, or service in that environment) so that it can be accessed, understood, and used to the greatest extent possible by all people, regardless of their age, size, ability, or disability. It proposes 7 design principles for equitable and accessible participation. The concept of Universal Design does not claim to make environments or products accessible to all people at all times, but rather aims to ensure accessibility for most people most of the time, addressing the broadest range of needs and abilities within a given context.
