Disability Justice is a framework introduced in 2005 by disabled activists, including Patty Berne, Mia Mingus, and the late Stacey Milbern and other queer, trans, black and brown activists. Disability Justice expands on the progress of the disability rights movement by taking a more comprehensive approach that recognizes the intersectionality of disabled people who are also part of other marginalized communities. The disability justice framework proposes 10 principles and calls attention to the ways that ableism is linked to multiple other systems of oppression. Disability Justice centers cultural humility, intersectionality and the ways diverse systems of oppression amplify and reinforce one another.
