Fundamental Alteration

The ADA notes that businesses do not need to implement a modification if it would be a “fundamental alteration.” A fundamental alteration describes a change that is so significant that it would change the essential nature of a business. This may describe requests that are not reasonable accommodations (See “Reasonable Accommodations”).
