Preview guide or Pre-visit guide

A Preview Guide is a priming strategy providing information of situations in the future. Preview Guides are also called Social Narrative, Pre-Visit Story, Pre-visit Guide, Know-Before-You-Go Guide, Visual Schedule, Sensory Map, or Tip Sheet. There are various terms used in the field but regardless of the term, the primary purpose of these tools are to provide information before a situation occurs. This knowledge allows the person to prepare for future situations. Many people use the term Social Story™ but the use of the Social Story™ term is not recommended unless you have permission by the trademark owner to use the term. Preview guides should be easily located on an organization’s website and/or shared through email or other channels. Preview Guides should provide the appropriate information so people know what to expect and are able to plan for the future visit. Examples of information shared using preview guides may include getting to the site, safety information, any site rules, pictures of the site, sensory qualities of the venue, and information about the site’s physical and other access features.
