Open captions are on-screen text descriptions that display dialogue, identify speakers, and describe relevant sounds in a video. These captions are synchronized with the video content, providing equivalent access to the information originally conveyed through sound. Unlike closed captions, open captions are embedded directly into the video and cannot be turned off by the viewer. Open captions are typically used for live events, recorded videos, or large displays where the captions are visible to all viewers. They can be generated by CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation), human/Live captioning, or AI generated captions during live or recorded events as well as embedded in media.
