International Building Code

The International Building Code (IBC) establishes minimum guidelines for building systems that make possible the use of new materials and new building design, providing a reasonable level of safety, public health, and general welfare through prescriptive and performance related guidelines. The IBC serves as the basis for laws and regulations in communities across the United States and in other countries. Chapter 11 of the IBC sets requirements related to accessibility of buildings and associated sites and facilities for people with physical disabilities. The provisions are intended to meet or exceed the federal requirements in the ADA and Fair Housing Act.
