Hard of Hearing (also known as HoH or HH) is a term used to describe individuals with partial or variable hearing loss. Hearing may be congenital (present at birth) or acquired later in life, and can range widely. People who are Hard of Hearing may use spoken language, assistive listening devices, captions, and/or visual cues to support communication. The term is affirmational and preferred over “hearing impaired,” which centers deficit rather than identity.
