Detectable Warning Surfaces provide tactile indicators or feedback about a person’s location. They typically feature high visual contrast and raised or textured elements that are built in or applied to circulation paths or other elements to warn people who are blind or visually impaired of hazards, changes in terrain, or changes to the circulation path or path of travel. They can be used to indicate a change from a sidewalk to the road, the beginning of a staircase or ramp, a protruding object or potentially hazardous feature.
