The AAB is a Massachusetts state regulatory board established in 1974 under state law (MGL c. 22 §13A) to develop and enforce accessibility regulations for public buildings. It oversees 521 CMR, the Massachusetts Accessibility Code, which applies to new construction, renovations, and certain changes in use for public buildings. The Board reviews requests for variances, hears complaints, and ensures compliance with state-level accessibility requirements, which may be more stringent than federal ADA standards.
